In December 2025 the Cyprus Mail reported the results of a global holiday home index compiled by Compare the Market. Across more than fifty destinations, Cyprus finished first, with an overall score of 8.25 out of 10.
The index measured the things that decide whether a second home is actually lived in rather than merely owned: 534 restaurants for every 100,000 residents, average monthly rainfall of 31.89mm, and a real house price index of 99.6 on the OECD scale. Australia came second with 7.46, Malta third with 7.11, followed by Italy and Greece.
Affordability is a key factor, as is weather and lifestyle amenities.
