In November 2025 Passport News reported that AEGEAN Airlines would open a direct line between Brussels and Larnaca on 1 December.
The timing is not incidental: it coincides with Cyprus taking the presidency of the Council of the European Union. The new route puts Larnaca one flight from the Belgian capital and the institutions that sit in it, and gives Israeli travellers heading to Brussels a second way through.
4.9 million passengers passed through the island’s airports between June and August.
That summer figure is the context. Cyprus is settling into the role of a regional aviation hub, and the winter season brought further new routes from Wizz Air and Cyprus Airways. Every route added is another month of the year in which Larnaca is easy to reach.
